Hey, did you know? It's International Coffee day today. Did you know that despite the Starbucks addicted image of it's citizens US is only number 25 in the world by coffee consumption. Coffee is the lifeblood of many an office worker so no wonder Canary Wharf is teeming with coffee shops. Here are some of our favourites.
The best things very often might be right in front of us and we walk past without notice. Notes in Canary Wharf underground station is just that. This petite outpost of Notes in Canary Wharf serves up a fantastic coffee like any other branch and if you look around in your early morning haze you'll always see a queue of people lining up. Notes specialises in seasonal, high grade, single origin coffee delicately roasted in their local East London roastery.
Why not make your morning coffee mean something more than just a wake up energy boost before work. Just outside the main entrance of Canary Wharf station look out for the Change Please coffee van. Change Please is a social enterprise staffed by and for homeless people. They train the homeless barista skills and provide a living wage employment, help with housing, banking and mental health. Simply changing where you buy your coffee can mean a big change for someone else.
We'll show our bias here as we are neighbours with Café Samba, but in our defence they serve fantastic coffee. Longe before the South Quay food truck market got set up Café Samba was already here. I guess you could say they started it all. Look out for their green truck not just for coffees but for delicious sandwiches, smoothies and a selection of other very international drinks and treats.
